The Nanaimo Pride Society, because of changing life circumstances of a number of current Directors due to family, career, health, and other opportunities, has decided to bring forward the date of its Annual General Meeting in order to elect a brand new refreshed Board of Directors.
BC has just announced the proposed Restart Plan as we finally start to put Covid-19 behind us. This Restart Plan provides June 15th as a possible date to open up to indoor gatherings of up to 50 people, however this is contingent on a variety of factors and this date is currently tentative at best. One thing this pandemic has taught us is to be prepared for setbacks. As we can't be positive that we will meet all of the criteria by the proposed date, NPS will be hosting this event once again on ZOOM.
We believe that this will allow the maximum number of members to attend as possible. Some people are still cautious and don't yet feel comfortable with the idea of attending larger events.
As membership is opening for renewals and new member applications, we don't know what our total membership will be. Current health guidelines limit the attendance at in person events and therefore we are unable to ensure that the number of members attending would fall within these guidelines.
As our community moves on from the COVID Pandemic and looks forward to a sense of normalcy in the near future, this provides a perfect opportunity to refresh the Society with new blood and enthusiasm. If things go as planned, it may even be possible to return to live events once again in the very near future. After all, we are a social community who likes our entertainment.
Traditionally, Nanaimo Pride's AGM date is in September after the fiscal year end. By moving the AGM forward, this one time, NPS could return to live events potentially by the end of the summer rather than have to wait a further few months while the Society changes and transitions to new leadership thereby delaying events to the end of the year.
The outgoing Board looks forward to seeing the results of a reinvigorated Nanaimo Pride Society at the service of our 2SLGBTQ+ community.
