Salmon Arm Arts Centre is thrilled to announce a special event for 2SLGBTQ+ couples as part of this year’s 2nd annual Salmon Arm Pride Project Arts & Awareness Festival: Pride weddings! On October 24th, the Salmon Arm Art Gallery will be transformed into a Vegas-style wedding chapel for five pairs of lucky lovebirds. Couples can select from weddings, commitment ceremonies, and vow renewals for an intimate gathering of up to 12 guests. Flowers, photography, sparkling toasts, hair and makeup, wedding favours, and even a drag queen flower girl are all available for an inclusive ceremony price of $500 – an amazing deal made possible by the local businesses that support this year’s Festival.
“We have an incredible group of collaborators that jumped at the chance to make this an unforgettable day,” says Pride Project Artistic Director Kate Fagervik. “The Pride Project committee really wanted to create something special for this year’s Festival, and offering a beautiful and affordable way for folks to celebrate their commitment to one another felt like the perfect thing.”
Shuswap-based celebrant Sue Cairnie, a trained metaphysical minister and celebrant who specializes in 2SLGBTQ+ ceremonies, will work with couples ahead of the big event to ensure that the day reflects who they are, and what is meaningful to them. "Life is too short to NOT call in our loved ones to have fun and celebrate the big important things! Ceremonies take us out of linear time and into sacred space. They help us find ourselves and each other, and make sense of both the joy and the pain in our lives,” shared Cairnie. With its large Palladian windows, hardwood floors, and high ceilings, the historic Salmon Arm Art Gallery will provide a striking backdrop. “The venue alone is going to make the day memorable,” explains Fagervik. “But beyond that, weddings can be tricky to organize, and to be honest, sometimes really expensive.” explains Fagervik. "In this case, though, we’ve taken care of all the details! Each intimate ceremony allows couples to choose their handful of guests, and relax and enjoy the day surrounded by artwork created by queer artists. We’ve even set up a discount with the Prestige Hotel and Resort so folks can linger after their big day, wake up to the sunrise over Shuswap Lake, and then take in Salmon Arm’s beautiful fall colours."With only five time slots available, interested folks are encouraged to contact Kate at firstname.lastname@example.org by October 12th.Here Comes The Pride collaborators include Abby Rose Photography, MisMack Clean Cosmetics, Wildwood Flower Emporium, Summerhill Pyramid Winery, Element Botanicals, Georgia Nitchie, Karmen Krahn and Freida Whales - all included in the $500 price.Running from October 18th to 24th, the Salmon Arm Pride Project Arts and Awareness Festival features both in-person and online arts events for the whole community to further 2SLGBTQ+ awareness, visibility and acceptance, using the arts as a binding force.
